The 8th Varadero Gourmet-2016 Festival recently held at this famous Cuban beach resort fulfilled its objective of encouraging the exchange of experiences and knowledge between businesspeople and gourmet experts and world services.
According to Cuban Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero, this event posed a challenge for rescuing Cuban catering services.
In a meeting with the accredited press, Marrero urged professionals from the sector to enhance the quality of the services and rescue the Cuban traditions in general and those of the local cuisine.
This annual event becomes ever more important each year, so it is necessary to preserve and expand it, the minister noted.
Companies from ten countries and three other international consortiums attended the festival held at the Plaza América Convention Center in Varadero, Matanzas, a province located 140 kilometers east of Havana.
The Varadero Gourmet-2016 Festival was also attended by representatives from the private sector, which is “an inspiring element because we advocate a type of tourism that complements all choices alike, so that Cuba becomes a leading gastronomic destination,” commented Palmares Company’s manager, Jorge Luis Acosta.
The three-day event made way for lectures, presentations, tasting sessions, workshops, panels led by experts, exhibitions and contests.
The main topics discussed included gastronomy and enology as cultural heritage, styled Cuban cuisine: challenge and reality, contemporary cuisine, and a combination of cigars, chocolate and coffee.
Bars, cocktails and tapas, Cuban rums, secrets, new features, and training conferences completed the agenda for the festival sponsored by the Cuban Tourism Ministry, Palmares Company, the Higher Group for Business Management, and the Professional Training System for Tourism.
The Varadero Gourmet-2016 Festival convened businesspeople and experts in the management, training and commercialization of food and beverages, both from Cuba and abroad, as well as representatives from the state-run and private sectors and professionals and academics from the catering sector.
The event also highlighted the importance of quality and excellence as key elements for competitiveness among tourist destinations.
Held at Cuba’s largest sun-beach tourist destination, this edition of the festival brought together people in charge of developing internationally renowned gastronomy and enology services through high quality and excellent choices.Share on FB Share on TT
