HAVANA._ The Ballet Nacional de Cuba (Cuba’s National Ballet, BNC) has announced a repeat performance of the universal Swan Lake ballet.
Absolutely indispensable in the repertoire of all large ballet companies in the world, this classical ballet will be staged at Havana’s Teatro Nacional (National Theater) on February 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22.
Paradoxically, when the ballet piece was premiered in 1877 at the famous Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Julius Reisinger’s choreography was booed.
The work survived thanks to choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, from the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, who committed to rescuing it in 1895 in honor of composer Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky.
In the second half of the 20th century, Alicia Alonso made a version of Petipa and Ivánov’s choreography her own, by enhancing it technically; very much in keeping with the style she could and liked to exhibit.
The lead dancers with BNC, Viengsay Valdés, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia, Amaya Rodríguez, Dani Hernández, Víctor Estévez, and José Carlos Lozada will perform the starring roles this time, together with Grettel Morejón, Estheisy Menéndez, and Alfredo Ibáñez and others.Share on FB Share on TT
