HAVANA.- The Cuban tourist authorities called fourth today photographers from all over the world to participate in a competition that will give them an insight into underwater life in the western region of the island.
A new version of the International Underwater Photography Event Fotosub 2016 will take place on April 21- May 1 in the waters of the Island of youth (southeast), known worldwide for this type of practice, starting from the Hotel Colony.
The marketing director of the Cuban Marlin Marina Francisco Díaz, the commercial director of the Ecotur agency Emma Fonseca and the president of the Cuban Federation of Underwater Activities (FCAS in Spanish) Octavio La Guardia informed the press of the details of this call.
In a meeting at the Hemingway Marina, the officials indicated that 30 photographers would participate in this edition, above all from Argentina, Brazil and Italy, although the call is still open to more contestants from any location.
They recognized that it is probable that photographers from the United States will attend who already received information through insular entities in their country, as is the case of Havanatur Celimar.
With five categories (fish, atmosphere, atmosphere model, macro and macro themes), the competition will give out 17 awards, including that of the main winner and those corresponding to each category.
The award-winners will be taken care of by the companies ACUC, Mares, Avalon, Havana Club and Bucanero, and the organizers hope that it will be a truly photo-orientated party, considering the well conserved surroundings of the place that will serve as the stage for the event.
The panel will be comprised of the Cuban expert Carlos Fonseca on behalf of the FCAS, alongside José Julián Martí and the Italian Doménico Russo from FIPSAS. The three judges are specialists in visual communication in their respective organizations.
The Marlin Marinas and Nauticas S.A. company tends to 23 International Diving Centers in the whole of Cuba, with two of them in the area of Hotel Colony (Siguanea and Colony) which will be the venue of Fotosub 2016.
This company tends to more than 200, 000 divers annually and hopes to see an increase in the future thanks to the constant requests from tourists and travelers to try this type of activity during their holiday on the island.
La Guardia explained that the competition will take place at a depth of 18 meters because although 30 meters would be accessible, the clarity and other factors of the surroundings at the former level make the descent ideal for obtaining better images.
Those who would like to participate in this Marlin event (email@example.com, www.photosubcuba.com), will have the opportunity to enjoy the truly conserved surroundings and in addition to trying their luck, they will be in direct contact with the tourism of the island.
Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and its Marlin company, the FCAS will be the competition’s technical advisor as well as a well prepared mechanism of security and protection that guarantees the performance of this competition, insisted the organizers.Share on FB Share on TT
