HAVANA._ As internet images of President Barack Obama publicly accepting a Cuban Montecristo cigar circulate, lovers of the product are anxiously awaiting to see what might happen at the 2015 Habano Festival.
Cuban cigar industry authorities have timely announced that the 17th Habano Festival, the greatest celebration of what are known as “Premium“ cigars, will be held in February, at which Romeo and Juliet and Montecristo jointly reign.
The international Habanos S.A. corporation added in their statement that the festival in the Cuban capital will run from February 23 to the 27. They further noted that Cuba will once again host the most prestigious international event dedicated to Premium (hand made) cigars that annually brings lovers of the world´s finest tobacco together.
The 2015 festival will be dedicated to various brands of Habanos, especially two of the most renowned; Montecristo and Romeo and Juliet.
More than 1,300 people from almost 60 countries and 250 journalists and photographers from a total of 142 media outlets from 30 nations participated in the prior prestigious annual celebration.
The event program includes visits to the finest Vuelto Abajo tobacco plantations in the western province of Pinar del Rio.
Factory tours, an international seminar, a Habano-sommelier contest and the closing auction at Havana´s Convention Center are also envisaged.
The 2014 festival, which welcomed over 2,200 visitors, had exhibits by 60 companies from 7 different countries.
One of the festival´s novelties is that the opening night will be held in the Timber and Tobacco Store in Havana‘s port zone where participants will enjoy the privilege of attending the unveiling of the 2009 Harvest Romeo and Juliet Grand Reserve.
According to the statement, a special tribute to the Montecristo brand and its special 80th Anniversary ring will be presented at the closure, in addition to the traditional auction of humidifiers, the entire proceeds of which go to the Cuban health system.Share on FB Share on TT
